WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Mike Michaud, a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, announced that U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has accepted his invitation to visit Maine. The visit will take place in the afternoon of Monday, August 17th. Additional details on the trip will be announced as they become available.
"I am pleased that Secretary LaHood accepted my invitation to visit our great state," said Michaud. "Whether it's advancements in composite technology for infrastructure, or what our state is doing to contribute to a clean energy future, Maine really is a leader. I look forward to his visit and working with him to update and improve our nation's surface transportation programs."
Earlier this year, Michaud met with Secretary LaHood in his Washington, DC office to discuss a number of transportation issues, including Maine's truck weight problem. Michaud, a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, is currently working with his fellow committee members to craft the next multi-year highway and transit authorization bill.
Before becoming Secretary of Transportation, LaHood served for 14 years in the U.S. House of Representatives from the 18th District of Illinois (from 1995-2009). During that time he served on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and, after that, on the House Appropriations Committee.
