Basic information about the MDP’s Delegate Selection Plan, Caucuses, and State Convention

Important Dates:

February 3rd & 4th, 2024 - Municipal and Regional Caucuses

March 5th, 2024 - Maine Presidential Primary

May 31st & June 1st, 2024 - Maine Democratic State Convention in Bangor

August 19th - 22nd, 2024 - Democratic National Convention in Chicago

 

State Convention

The Maine Democratic State Convention will be held May 31st and June 1st, 2024, at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. The convention is an incredible gathering that combines important decision-making and powerful community building. Attendees will have the chance to hear from our Party's elected leaders and candidates, as well as representatives from important progressive organizations.

Delegates to the State Convention will also get to vote on important matters such as electing Party leadership, and amendments to the Party Platform and Charter. 

Any Democrat can propose an amendment to the MDP Platform or Charter, and run for State Committee, National Delegate, Democratic National Committee Member, and Presidential Elector by taking out an online petition through our system and collecting signatures from State Delegates and Alternates.

Delegate Selection Plan

  • Maine will have 32 delegates and 2 alternates to the Democratic National Convention.
  • The presidential primary will be on March 5, 2024, by RCV.
  • Results from the primary will determine the number of national delegates each presidential candidate will have.
  • 24 delegates will be elected according to the presidential primary vote, and 8 will be automatic.

Municipal and Regional Caucuses

The Maine Democratic Party Caucuses are gatherings of Democratic friends and neighbors from every town across Maine. Caucuses serve many purposes including selecting delegates to the MDP State Convention, electing local committee leaders, hearing from local legislators & candidates, nominating election clerks, and discussing local issues.

Municipal and regional caucuses were held on February 3rd or 4th, 2024.
