Congresswoman Chellie Pingree joined New Mexico Congressman Harry Teague in leading an effort by nearly two dozen first-term Members of Congress to urge negotiators to restore cuts in education funding made when the Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act was passed by the Senate.

“These investments in education include money to help school districts all over Maine and all over the country modernize, renovate and rebuild,” Pingree said.  “Not only does it help create a suitable learning environment for our children, it also puts immediate money into the local construction industry.”

The first term Members of Congress signed a letter, organized by Pingree and Teague, that was sent to the “conferees”—the House Members assigned to negotiate a final bill with the Senate.
