BANGOR POLLING PLACE CLOSED FOR 30 MINS DUE TO FIRE ALARM

Voters who waited in line exceedingly long should call Bangor City Clerk

(BANGOR, MAINE) - The Bangor High School polling station closed for approximately 30 minutes earlier today after a fire alarm went off.

Voters stood outside for 30-40 minutes waiting for the polling location to re-open. As of 5:30 p.m., voters were once again casting their ballots at the site.

The Maine Democratic Party is urging those affected by the closing to call the City Clerk to inform them of the problem once they have cast their ballot. The Bangor City Clerk's phone # is: 992-4218.

Maine Democratic Party communications director Rebecca Pollard said it's important for all voters to know that state law allows anyone in line by 8:00 p.m. at any polling location to cast their ballot and urged them to wait as long as it takes to make sure they have the opportunity to vote and make their voice heard.

Mainer voters may call 207-756-6605 or 877-2-ME-OBAMA (877-263-6226) to find their polling location or nearest office, to request a ride to the polls, or to speak with our election protection team.
