8/26/2008- DAY 2: Dispatch From the Democratic National Convention

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, August 26, 2008
CONTACT: REBECCA POLLARD, 207-772-4353

Last night was the first night of the Convention and all I can say is wow. First Ted Kennedy made a surprise appearance, moving everyone in the crowd because of his amazing record as the most vehement champion for everyday Americans, working people, people struggling for the most basic health care and just a fair chance to make it. And then, Michelle Obama comes out and the place is silent. Possibly the best speech I've heard in my life. She really can relate to every single American who has ever struggled and worked hard for their family--whether in Maine or Chicago or Texas or anywhere around the world. In a word: amazing.

At this morning's Maine delegation meeting, DNC Chairman Howard Dean spoke along with Governor Baldacci, Congressman Michaud, and Rep. Tom Allen. Now, the delegates are off for another full day of events.
