Maine Women Commemorate the Anniversary of the Passage of the 19th Amendment with Statewide Phone Banks and Canvasses
(PORTLAND, MAINE)- On Tuesday, August 26th, Senator Hillary Clinton will address the nation from the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado. In a tribute to the historic contributions women have made in this election, and in honor of the millions of women nationwide who are working to help elect the Senator Barack Obama, Maine women will celebrate Women's Equality Day with a series of Women Organizing for Change events across the state.
Women's Equality Day is observed on August 26th of each year in commemoration of the passage of the 19th Amendment, which gave American women the right to vote in 1920. This Tuesday, Obama's Campaign for Change and the Maine Democratic Party's Victory 2008 Coordinated Campaign will be holding Women Organizing for Change canvasses and phone banks in honor of this landmark in America's history.
