8/25/2008- DAY 1: Dispatch from the Democratic National Convention

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, August 25, 2008
CONTACT: REBECCA POLLARD, 207-772-4353

I arrived with most of the Maine delegation in the Mile High City yesterday on the eve of the Democratic National Convention.

The city is already covered in political paraphernalia and enthusiastic Democrats from every state in the nation. The energy is really incredible.

We are staying at a hotel along with the Kentucky delegation and already there are inter-state friendships forming in the elevator. The hotel is within walking distance from the Pepsi Center, where most of the action is happening and where Michelle Obama will speak tonight. We are also right around the corner from the Colorado Convention Center, where many of the press events and caucus meetings will happen.

This is a once in a lifetime experience for all involved. Our Maine delegation is in their element, meeting politicos from around the country and seeing some of our nation's greatest leaders, and famous news personalities up close.

Last night, some of the Maine delegates went to a Friends of New Orleans Benefit hosted by Democratic strategists James Carville and Donna Brazile. And, earlier in the day, some of the party leaders had a walkthrough of the Pepsi Center to get ready for the week ahead.

This morning was the first of the daily delegation breakfasts, where we pick up credentials for the day and talk with one another about various events we'll be attending, updates on the various committee discussions, and other business of the day. Today we were joined by special guest former Governor Joe Brennan.

Stay tuned for a report on our first day of Convention action...
