Mainers Host Over 100 "Watch Parties" for Obama's Acceptance Speech and Get Ready for Statewide Voter Registration Drive on "Working for Change Weekend"

(PORTLAND, MAINE)- It's a big week for Maine with the kickoff of the Democratic National Convention tomorrow. As Barack Obama prepares to accept his historic nomination, Mainers will be out in force this week, planning "Watch Parties" for Senator Obama's acceptance speech Thursday and gearing up for the "Working for Change Weekend" following the convention.

The 2008 Democratic Convention will highlight and celebrate Americans coming together to change the future of our country. Delegates from across the Pine Tree State have traveled to the convention in Denver to represent Maine in choosing Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee for President. Michelle Obama will kick off the first night of the convention as the featured speaker on Monday, August 25. The evening's theme is "One Nation."

On Tuesday, August 26, Obama's Campaign for Change will hold a Women for Change Canvass in honor of "Women's Equality Day." Senator Hillary Clinton will be the featured speaker at the convention that night. The convention's theme on Tuesday is "Renewing America's Promise."

On Wednesday, August, 27, Senator Joe Biden will accept the Vice Presidential nomination. Maine Senate candidate Tom Allen will speak at the convention on 6:30 p.m. ET Wednesday evening. The night's theme is "Securing America's Future."

On the final night of the convention, Thursday, August 28, volunteers for Obama's Campaign for Change will hold over 100 "Watch Parties" around the Pine Tree State. Friends and neighbors will gather in homes to watch Barack Obama accept the democratic nomination. The Watch Parties are free and open to the public.
