8/21/2008- MEDIA ADVISORY: Mainers Respond After John McCain Admits He Doesn't Know How Many Houses He Owns

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: THURSDAY, AUGUST 21, 2008

CONTACT: JESSICA SANTILLO, 207-449-2304

(BANGOR, ME)- Today, Bangor resident Kassie Stevens, Rep. Mike Dunn, and House Majority Whip Sean Faircloth responded to John McCain's admission that he doesn't know how many houses he owns.

"John McCain is offering more of the same failed Bush-Cheney plans that have left the middle class behind for the past eight years," said House Majority Whip Rep. Sean Faircloth. "This comment helps to explain why. But Barack Obama knows that we cannot accept more of the same. He will put the middle class first. He's offering tax cuts and emergency energy rebates for middle class families to help folks cope with rising prices. Only one candidate will be on our side, and that's Barack Obama."

John McCain's inability to say how many houses he owns comes just days after he defined Americans who are rich as those earning over $5 million per year.

"John McCain has so many houses that he can't remember how many he owns," said Representative Mike Dunn. "That doesn't give me confidence that he understands how hard it is for most Mainers to pay for a home for their families. Every day, John McCain shows that he is completely out of touch with regular Americans, whether he's offering billions more in tax breaks for the oil companies or declaring that multimillionaires are members of the middle class. We need a President who understands what we're going through, and that's Barack Obama."

Mainers are invited to come into Campaign for Change offices across the state today and make a guess at how many houses John McCain owns. Winners receive a free campaign bumper sticker. We will not be able to award prizes until McCain or his campaign offer their "Final Answer" on exactly how many houses John McCain owns. In today's Associated Press story, McCain's campaign said the answer is "at least four." Newsweek has reported the answer is "at least seven."
